Since 2015 Johnson & Johnson has supported The Magic Bus Integrated Adolescent Girl Empowerment and Livelihood Programs which are aimed at helping girls realise their potential through education and the acquisition of life and vocational skills that help empower them socially and economically. While research suggests that educating girls has far ranging positive effects for the community as many as 800,000 girls under 10 are forced in to marriage every year. The Magic Bus program uses activities and games to shape girls’ attitudes and behaviours in relation to their health and hygiene, gender equality and confidence. Then specific vocational training and coaching helps the young women realise their personal and professional goals. To bolster their chances of success, The Magic Bus engages local youth volunteers as mentors and role models and work with parents, teachers and community leaders to create a supportive environment for the girls. The Magic Bus has ambitions to reach out to a million children and youth by 2020. As of now they are working with 400,000 children from underprivileged backgrounds across India, including 3100 who are directly supported by Johnson & Johnson.
