Sandeep Makkar is the Managing Director, Johnson & Johnson Medical India (JJMI) and a member of Johnson & Johnson Asia Pacific Regional Leadership Team. An avid learner, he earned his MBA and Certificate in Health Sector Management at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business in USA. Sandeep gained healthcare management experience with Select Medical before joining Johnson & Johnson in USA in 2008. He relocated to India in January 2020.
Sandeep has a strong background in healthcare and medical devices spanning 23 years, including diverse experiences in global strategic marketing for product design and brand management, business development, and commercial roles in USA, Japan, India and APAC region. Sandeep is a global healthcare leader with a successful track record defined by customer-first credo, inspirational leadership, growth mind-set, actionable strategies, disciplined execution and consistency in delivering results.
In his current role, Sandeep is actively engaged in helping shape the Indian healthcare environment through active participation in leading industry forums. He is a member of the Governing Councils of Healthcare Federation of India (NATHEALTH) and Healthcare Sector Skills Council (HSSC), Executive Committee member of AdvaMed, and active member of Medical Technology Association of India (MTaI). He is also an active participant in US Indian Business Council (USIBC) working groups on healthcare.
Sandeep is the recipient of multiple leadership awards for his commitment to customers, people development and business results. He is passionate about community impact. He recently led a widely acclaimed partnership between Government of India and the industry for making India self-reliant on high quality and significantly low cost COVID-19 testing swabs in record time. Sandeep and his family are advocates of Red Cross Society and Operation Smile (charitable organization for safe and effective cleft lip and cleft palate surgery). Even his children take immense pride in these efforts and hold leadership positions in school and state chapters of these organizations.
