Janssen India Receives Prestigious Award for Its Efforts to Combat Multidrug-resistant Tuberculosis

Janssen India receives prestigious award for its efforts to combat multidrug-resistant tuberculosis alt

Janssen India, the pharmaceutical division of Johnson & Johnson Private Limited, is proud to announce that the Company has been honored with CSR Health Impact’s prestigious Swasth Bharat award in recognition of its comprehensive and transformative work to support India’s efforts to address the growing challenge of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).

India has the world’s highest burden of TB, accounting for more than a quarter of all cases globally (2.74 million in 2017). Growing resistance to commonly-used TB drugs is compounding this challenge and today, DR-TB is the largest contributor to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)-related deaths in the world. India experiences approximately 135,000 new cases of DR-TB every year, more than any other country. Less than half of these patients are diagnosed.

Janssen is working closely with the Government and other partners to combat DR-TB at all levels, including building of critical health systems capacity that is needed to ensure the appropriate and responsible scale-up of newer treatments.

Speaking about the company’s commitment to support the country’s ambitious goal of ending TB by 2025, Sarthak Ranade, Managing Director, Janssen India said:

We are honored to receive this award, in recognition of our comprehensive efforts to address the growing challenge of MDR-TB in India. The private sector plays an important role in driving progress against critical health issues – but we can’t do it alone. Indeed, our efforts would not have been possible without the support of our exceptional implementation partners and the communities we work with, so today we share this honor with them.
